How do we build the sights, smells, and textures of a place that will stay with a reader long after they’ve finished reading our story? By crafting scenes that envelop the senses, we can transport our readers to places they've never visited, worlds they yearn to explore, and settings that feel lush and layered.

In this 3-hour workshop, we will dive into work by authors who create vivid settings and channel all of our senses into writing rich backdrops and worlds of our own. At the end of the session, participants will walk away with freshly drafted work, instructor and peer feedback , as well as prompts and readings to generate more luxuriant, compelling settings in the future.

What should I know about your writing workshops?

  • For now, my writing workshops are virtual, but I am hoping to add an in-person option for the greater Philadelphia area soon!

  • I want every workshop I teach to be accessible to all levels of writers. If you have only ever written for yourself or if you have been published, you are welcome. I design each workshop to be a collaborative, expansive craft conversation that will allow everyone to walk away with something new.

  • Financial aid is available upon request, based on need. If you are requesting financial aid, please indicate in the “Additional Notes” section of the online form. I will confirm availability and send you a code.

  • Unfortunately, I cannot process refunds at this time. However, if there is an emergency, I may be able to offer a credit for a future workshop session.
